Out with “opposites attract” and in with “birds of a feather flock together” concept, according to a new study on the DNA of married couples.

The new study found that spouses tend to share more closely related DNA than two random strangers. Why? Well, there are many theories but at the most simplistic level, our DNA dictates other factors like weight, height and ethnicity. These factors often bring together those with similar assets  and qualities.

This research was conducted at the University of Colorado-Boulder’s Institute of Behavioral Science.

The study consisted of looking at 825 white heterosexual American couples and the results were recently published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

What the researchers found however is that it is more common for married couples to share the same education level than it is so have similar genes. Our genes are responsible for much of what we will do in life, including how far we will likely go in our education so they do, in part, still play a role.
